Nušviesti Lygumai/Event Horizon (2016)
Duration:
7’30”
Instrumentation:
Four string quartets in space (8 violins, 4 violas, 4 violoncellos)
Programme Note
The composition was born from the sounds of the violin, which were overplayed during childhood and later reappeared in compositions for string instruments. It also draws inspiration from spatial music in both dark and light settings, submerging audiences, sometimes of even just one person, into audible and imaginary soundscapes. Additionally, the composition is the result of persistent research over almost six years into the compositional process, including initiation, inspirations, tendencies, conscious and subconscious processes, and the compositional decisions affected by them. It explores the interaction between the edges, borders, and horizons of these elements, which constantly change, creating impermanent and all-powerful skies that disappear into the Event Horizon.
There is no conductor and no full score, only parts (Quartet I Violin I part is shown as demo).
Commissioned by Gaida festival.
