Programme Note
Moteris ir jos gyvenimai (‘The Woman and her Lives’) was a commission by UPĖ Media Producer Laura Almantaitė to write music for a short art animation, directed by Rasa Joni. Three poems by poet Indrė Valantinaitė formed the basis for the animation – ”Tunelis” (”A Tunnel”), ”Only Lovers Left Alive”, and ”Užuomarša” (”The forgetfull one”). All three of them explore life and death and eternity of ever rotating time, through human experience. As it is discribed in the synopsis of the film, ‘In this fusion of poetry and animation, a woman’s soul keeps traveling through new lives and physical forms. In the existential chaos, she strives for the most important goal of life – to find her soul mate.’
My music, although have sections, is performed as a continuous piece, with different instruments representing different timelines and characters, coming together in the Coda of the piece. Musicians of Ensemble Classic+ beautifully performed and recorded the track that now is accomanying the animation, it was masterfully recorded by Baltic Mobile Recordings (Aleksandra and Vilius Kerai) and the premierre of the animation happened in Cinema Centre „Vingis”, Lithuania, Funded by Lietuvos kino centras (The Lithuanian Film Centre).
The score can now be performed as a concert piece, and if you are interested in presenting the animation, please get in touch.
