Programme Note
I wrote this piece on a warm Lithuanian summer day in my dad’s countryside house, which I used as my creative residence. The idea of “Properša” was to reflect the peaceful nature and warmth of my surroundings. The whole structure of the piece grows from a single sound that develops into a motif. Motifs then turn into phrases, which are varied and change freely until they return to the melody heard at the beginning. It is a very simple, tonal piece. ”Properša” means an opening in the sky. This could be when you lift your head up while in the forest and see a bit of sky and maybe a beam of sun, or it could be when you look up at the cloudy sky and see a small opening through which you can see the blue sky.
