The piece was inspired by a visit to the Powells family in Poland. Jonathan Powekk, noticed that his newborn son Mark was demonstrating an interest in playing the piano, as much as a toddler can. Jonathan was interested in exploring the possibility of playing together with his son. However, as the child was not yet able to speak, no instructions or prior agreement in performance were possible. Jonathan provided me with a collection of gestures that Mark would normally play on the piano – high, middle, low, and the type. These became the leading components of the piece, to be chosen freely by Mark, while Jonathan received a more notated and coordinated part. The composition is suitable for any parent and child and can be adjusted as needed.
